Manu Biosphere – Blanquillo (Macaw Clay Lick) 5 Days

Day 1. – Puerto Maldonado – Colorado – Banquillo Lodge.-

Pick up from the airport (at time that you flight arrive to Puerto Maldonado) to continue in our comfortable bus and better rout aproximality 2 hours until Santa Rosa, after that we have to change the way for 30 minutes in dusty rout and cross in a small boat the Inambari River, after crossing the river, we take another car 4×4 for one hour to Colorado village. Here our boat is waiting for us and will take us 4 hours up the Madre de Dios River to Tambo Blanquillo Lodge. Today we have the opportunity to see wildlife along the stick banks of the river, such as Great Egret, Cocoi Herons, Purplish Jays, Black Skimmers, Black Vultures, King Vulture, Dusky Parrots, white or black caimans and some of the 13 species of monkeys that live in Manu. In the afternoon, we arrive to Tambo Blanquillo Lodge; we have the accommodations in double rooms with share bathroom. Optional night walk to see spider, insects, frogs, snakes etc.).

Day 2. – Macaw Clay Lick – Tapir Lick – Manu Birding Lodge.-

Early in the morning we go to the macaw clay Lick, aproximality takes 10 minutes by boat and 25 minutes walking to the special watching camouflage. We bring our breakfast at the hiding place. The activity begins around 5:30 am with the small parrots and parakeet and later the big macaws. The Parrots and that macaw eat the clay which contains minerals that helps the stomach digestion that is the reason why hundreds of parrots, parakeets and macaws come to this special place. After lunch, we will go to our next lodge “Manu birding Lodge” with private bathroom and hot shower. After we walk through primary rainforest aproximality for 1 hour to the Tapir lick; here there is an especial observation platform to see the Tapir (Tapirus terrestris). The tapirs are usually active at night for this reason we have mosquito nets with mattress and blankets to spend the night.

Day 3. – Blanco and Camungo Lake.-

Very early, we go by boat to visit Blanco lake, here we looking for the family of the Giant river otters that uses very often this lake, many species of the bird like the prehistoric bird called hoatzin, snail kite, white collared haw, doves, brown throated three toed sloth, red howler monkey, squirrel monkey, white fronted capuchin, brown capuchin and other species that reside in this lake. After lunch, we visit Camungo Lake, there we will climb on the 42 meters tower in a tree, and this is a very good place to observe the toucans. Optional to go in a catamaran and have another chance to see the Giant River Otters.Nigth in Manu Birding Lodge. Optional night walk

Day 4. – Manu Birding Trails.-

After the breakfast we explore the trails of the lodge, where we can see the black spider monkey, monk Saki, emperor and saddle backed Tamarin, also with a very good explanation about the medicinal plants and trees which are used for lumber.Nigth in Manu birding lodge. Optional night walk to see tarantulas.

Day 5.- Manu Birding lodge – Colorado – Flight to Lima or Cusco.-

Early in the morning, we have to return first by boat to Colorado village and then by car to Puerto Carlos, after crossing the Inambari River, we take our private bus to Puerto Maldonado and have the flight to Lima o Cusco or another option is Bus from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco ,Juliaca Puno or Arequipa. (Please you have buy the afternoon flight or last flight to Lima.
